Severe storms likely Monday afternoon/evening

Sunday will be fairly quiet across Virginia and Maryland with highs near 90, but it will be a busy one Monday afternoon/evening. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the region to a slight risk of severe storms, and I believe that could be upgraded again to moderate. Short range models are indicating threats for large hail, damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes based on wind shear profiles. Timing will be from about 5pm through about 8pm.

Afternoon/evening thunderstorms will stick around into Tuesday, then we’ll quiet down mid to late week with highs in the mid to upper 80s under mostly sunny skies.
