Saturday's storm should spare northern Virginia

Band of heaviest snow likely to set up just south of Richmond

Looking the forecast models for Saturday, there’s a general agreement that snow totals will be much lighter this time for areas north of Ashland, and heaviest (as of this writing) in a band setting up somewhere between Richmond and Emporia, of about 3-5” with areas like Williamsburg and Wakefield, Waverly more on the higher end. I’m also not seeing a big freezing rain threat for Virginia…that should stay down in North Carolina or maybe for areas like Emporia, South Hill, Danville, etc.

Also, temperatures behind this system won’t be as frigid as what we’re seeing right now…temperatures could reach 40 on Monday (system exits Saturday night). We should sort of thaw out for a few days before another arctic blast later next week.

I’ll have another update Thursday when this storm starts to get within view of the higher resolution short-range models.
