Potential wet weather for coastal VA, NC Memorial Day weekend

Going to be a quiet week ahead weather-wise with temperatures holding steady in the mid-upper 70s under mostly sunny skies. Unfortunately, forecast models are now indicating some wet weather over some of Memorial Day weekend for eastern Virginia and eastern North Carolina that could throw a wrench in your plans if you were hoping to head to the beach.

GFS model hour-by-hour forecast for Friday evening through late Sunday night

The GFS model shows a coastal storm system moving up along Hatteras, the Outer Banks, then Virginia Beach Friday evening (5pm) through Saturday evening, then moving into D.C. and Baltimore around 11pm or midnight on Saturday. The European model (below) delays the rain until Saturday evening for coastal North Carolina, then showers spread into coastal Virginia on Sunday, possibly pushing further west into the Richmond area as well, though more scattered in nature.

European model hour by hour forecast for Saturday evening through early Monday morning

This isn’t set in stone yet, just a possibility right now. Just be aware that the coast may not be a fun place to be for Memorial Day weekend. I’ll have another update mid-week as the details come into clearer focus.
