First tastes of wintry precip this week, for some

Not looking like a major ice storm over the Shenandoah Valley Tuesday morning…precipitation will start as a period of freezing rain from about 3 or 4am until 7 or 8am, then temperatures warm up into the mid 30s, changing everything over to just a cold rain. Because temperatures will be marginal at the outset, then quickly warm up above freezing, I don’t think there will be a big issue out that way. Elsewhere, further east, this is a cold rain for the entirety of Tuesday morning through about noon.

Another opportunity for winter weather lies ahead…models are showing another system headed east on Friday, which will run into cold air already in place. That cold air appears deep enough to support at least a minor snow event even to Richmond, Friday afternoon/early evening, for at least a few hours. Right now, this looks like a dusting; some models show warmer air moving in from the south Friday night, which would turn precip over to freezing rain then rain. Still plenty of time to keep an eye on it, though, and certainly things will change somewhat between now and then.
