Elevated severe storm risk Monday evening

Just about all of Virginia and Maryland are under an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms for Monday evening and most likely through 10pm. Forecast models are showing scattered storms developing mid-afternoon Monday and becoming more numerous and increasing in coverage as they move east, reaching the I-95 corridor by 6 or 7pm. Favorable wind shear profiles will mean a higher than usual risk of an isolated tornado or two, along with damaging wind gusts of 50-70 mph and hail that could reach 1” in diameter. Storms will move out of the area by 10pm.

Our weather will then quiet down again for the middle of the week before storm chances return Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will hang around in the upper 80s and low 90s.
